Digital sustainability is the way to systemically balance the potentially negative impacts of technology with the opportunities it offers for sustainable development.
With the Foundation for Digital Sustainability, we have been studying and disseminating this report for years. Now, with enthusiasm, we add a new piece: Digital Sustainability – The Podcast
We live in an era where content is moving to formats that are accessible everywhere. The podcast, from this point of view, is ideal both to consolidate the relationship with those who follow us and to help us expand our audience. In both cases, using a tool that offers us a broader scope than is possible with social or mainstream media, on which we are also present with commitment, and at the same time more direct and engaging than is possible with a textual medium such as Tech Economy 2030.
This is why ‘Digital Sustainability: The Podcast’ was born. With strong references to the contents of my book ‘Digital Sustainability: why sustainability cannot do without digital transformation’, it is a tool with which I want to guide the listener on a journey to discover the basics of digital sustainability, showing how it can be a compass to guide the way we live, produce and innovate.
I feel a responsibility to start this dialogue in the best possible way, with a direct and structured confrontation. In this series we will lay the foundations of the discourse. In future series, we will also involve members and partners of the Foundation to enrich the discussion.
My aim is to analyse and discuss, providing concrete insights, how digitisation can contribute to building a sustainable future. And at the same time understand how to promote sustainable digitisation development. Episodes will explore key topics such as Agenda 2030, artificial intelligence, the systemic view of digital transformation and the environmental, economic and social impact of technology.
Each episode starts with a story, followed by an in-depth analysis and a final reflection to rethink our relationship with technology.
The first episode, already available, introduces digital sustainability and its centrality in the contemporary debate. We recount real cases, talking about data, digital infrastructure and social and environmental impacts. We discuss the energy consumption of digital, data management and the inequalities that digitisation can create or mitigate.
Digital Sustainability: The podcast is a new venture that I care about very much, and it is meant to be an opportunity to explore the future together. I invite you to listen to it, tell me what you think, help me spread it and join the conversation.
Digital sustainability is not just a technical issue: it is a choice of collective responsibility.
