The journey of discovery of digital sustainability continues with our podcast. After introducing the topic of digital sustainability and delving into the boundary between digitisation and digital transformation, in this third episode we delve into the heart of Agenda 2030, the United Nations global programme for sustainable development. With only five years to go, it is time to take stock: where are we? Are we really building a more equitable and resilient future?

A Journey through the History and Future of Sustainability

To answer these questions, we start with the story of Federico, the mayor of a small Italian village, who turned the decline of his town into an opportunity for sustainable rebirth. Through the revitalisation of the local economy, the use of renewable energy and the enhancement of traditions, his model demonstrates that change is possible – but only with an integrated approach that brings together environment, economy and community.

The key questions

In this episode we look at the path that led to the 2030 Agenda and the current challenges, trying to answer some questions:

How did we get to the 2030 Agenda? From Agenda 21 to the Millennium Development Goals, what steps have marked the evolution of global sustainability?

Where are we in the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals? Have we made concrete progress or are we behind schedule?

What role does digital play? Can technology accelerate the achievement of the SDGs or does it risk creating new inequalities?

Is a sustainable future still possible? What strategies can we adopt to build a balance between economic growth, environmental protection and social welfare?

Also in this episode, we analyse concrete scenarios and ask important questions to understand how digital transformation and sustainability can intertwine. 2030 is closer than we think: will we be prepared?
