Italians’ awareness of digital sustainability
The final episode focuses on the awareness and skills of Italians with respect to digital sustainability. The cue comes from the story of Annalisa, a fashion designer engaged in creating a sustainable clothing line, who questions how important this value really is to her customers. The data collected by theFoundation for Digital Sustainability’s Observatory show a complex reality: only one Italian in six really knows what sustainability is, and as many as one in four considers climate change to be an important problem, but one that can be postponed to future generations.
The problem gets worse when we consider digital skills: in small municipalities, as many as 50 per cent of inhabitants declare themselves digitally illiterate. However, the episode also highlights an interesting fact: technology can often drive sustainable behaviour even without full ideological awareness. This paradox is a key opportunity to promote positive change.

A glimpse into the future
But this is only the beginning. The Digital Sustainability podcast will return in May, with a new series of episodes where we will explore the great, often apparent, contrasts that shape our age. We will continue to analyse the role of technology in building a sustainable future, with a critical and conscious approach. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Digital sustainability is not an abstract concept: it is a responsibility that we can and must all assume. And our journey continues.
The final episode of the first series is available on all major platforms and on the official website of the Foundation for Digital Sustainability.
