Trust plays a strategic role in the context of digital transformation, representing an enabling factor for truly impactful change. And it is, in this perspective, an element strongly interlinked with sustainability, capable of generating value for everyone: from organisations to citizens.

We talked about this in this interview with Danilo Cattaneo, CEO of Tinexta Infocert, on the occasion of the company’s entry – a partner in the digital transformation of companies and institutions – into the Foundation for Digital Sustainability network. Having graduated with honours in Computer Science, with an Executive MBA from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, Danilo Cattaneo has built his career on important professional experiences in roles of increasing responsibility at international companies, from Oracle Corporation to Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). He is currently Managing Director and General Manager of Tinexta Infocert, as well as Vice-President of Assintel.

Digital Confidence and Sustainability by Design

Sustainability and digital are no longer two parallel trajectories, but a single path towards the future. Today we cannot imagine a truly sustainable society without a secure, inclusive and reliable digital ecosystem,” explained Danilo Cattaneo. “In Tinexta Infocert, we set ourselves with precisely this responsibility: to be an enabler of a sustainable digital future based on trust.”

Trust is an essential element, especially in an increasingly digital world. And that is why, as a partner in digital transformation, it is at the heart of the company’s interests. “Our Digital Trust solutions don’t just make processes more efficient, they build the foundations of a digital world in which every interaction, from identity to signature, from data to transaction, is secure, transparent and verifiable. A digital world that people and organisations can truly trust. Digital trust is a key enabler: it enables broader access to services, overcomes geographical and social barriers, fosters new working models, and concretely improves quality of life‘.

In this vision, as the CEO of Tinexta Infocert explained, sustainability is not a downstream objective, but a real design principle. This is why we integrate ESG criteria into our internal processes, governance model and the solutions we offer to customers, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We believe in a future where digital is not only efficient, but also ethical, inclusive and sustainable: an ecosystem of trust that enables growth, innovation and value for society as a whole.”

A multidimensional approach

For Tinexta Infocert, therefore, digital sustainability means driving a technological transformation that is not only innovative, but also safe, responsible and capable of generating value over time. And this means being committed to considering the impacts that digital transformation can have on each of the areas of sustainability. “Environmentally, the digitisation of processes represents an immediate lever for reducing impact, but we have chosen to go beyond this approach, starting a structured process of objectively measuring the environmental impacts of our digital solutions, including the energy consumption of servers and data centres. The aim is to provide customers with transparent, verified and measurable data on the real environmental benefit generated. Some examples make this vision a reality. Our Trust Onboarding Platform (TOP), which enables remote identification, e.g. for the opening of online current accounts, was the subject of an LCA study conducted by SpinLife (University of Padua) and verified by CSQA: the analysis, according to ISO 14040 and 14044 standards, showed a reduction of up to 86% inCO2emissions compared to traditional in-person processes. Furthermore, in terms of digital approval processes, the GoSign solution has enabled 1.7 billion documents to be signed in 2024 alone, avoiding 224 million kg ofCO2, the consumption of around 63 thousand trees and the equivalent of 9 billion glasses of water. Each digital signature thus generates a measured and traceable environmental impact. To reinforce awareness of these issues, we then launched the Sustainability Awards in 2025 , rewarding customers who have contributed the most to reducing their environmental impact by adopting our solutions“.

However, we do not only look at the environmental key, although it is a relevant element: for us, the social impact is also central,” emphasised Danilo Cattaneo. “Digital Trust technologies make it possible to extend access to public and private services, making them usable remotely and therefore more inclusive. This helps to reduce territorial distances, simplify the relationship between citizens and administrations, and enable flexible working models. We believe that the credibility of our commitment also depends on what we do as an organisation: we promote social inclusion with concrete initiatives such as the collaboration with Specialisterne, dedicated to the enhancement of neurodiversity, and the Giotto project for the labour integration of people in fragile conditions. Moreover, in 2025, we obtained certification as a Dyslexia Friendly company with the Italian Dyslexia Association, strengthening our path towards increasingly fair and accessible working environments‘.

A common vision

In short, Tinexta Infocert’s role is to support its customers by transforming digital sustainability from an abstract principle to a concrete value, measurable and integrated into everyday processes. In other words, giving substance to a concept that must become increasingly central to companies and organisations. A vision, this, that unites the company and the Foundation for Digital Sustainability, and it is precisely from here that this new partnership has come to life: “joining the Foundation stems from a strong shared vision,” emphasised the CEO of Tinexta Infocert. “We believe that the country’s digital future must be based on a solid balance between technological innovation and trust, between economic development and the protection of people. We want to make a concrete contribution to the growth of an ecosystem in which digital is an enabling factor of widespread value: secure, inclusive and sustainable.

For us, the Foundation represents a space for comparison and qualified collaboration, where skills, experiences and responsibilities can converge to accelerate a digitalisation model capable of generating a positive and lasting impact on the country system. Becoming part of this network therefore means taking an active role in promoting a culture of digital sustainability, in which technology and trust walk together and become strategic levers for the growth of companies, institutions and society as a whole‘.
